Protecting estate agents from under £55* per year

Get a QuoteOur standard cover is:
Estate agent insurance covers a business built on descriptions and appointments. Every set of particulars is a claim waiting to be tested against reality, every valuation moves someone’s money, and every viewing walks strangers through someone else’s property with your name on the key tag. The covers exist for exactly those three sentences.
Professional Saver’s insurance policies cover estate and letting agents from £55* a year, with public liability as standard and professional indemnity scaled to the property you handle. Quote online in five minutes; documents arrive the same day.
The types of insurance available to estate agents stack in a familiar order, weighted to how agency work actually goes wrong:
Professional indemnity insurance answers for the professional work: a valuation a seller says lost them money, particulars a buyer calls misleading, advice on offers that went wrong. Professional indemnity insurance pays the compensation and legal defence when a client claims your service caused them financial loss, and in a profession regulated for misdescription, the defence funding alone earns the premium. Claims can surface long after completion, so keep PI continuous rather than per transaction.
Public liability insurance covers the physical side of agency life: a buyer slipping on a viewing, damage to a vendor’s property while you’re showing it, an accident in the branch. Public liability insurance comes as standard at £1 million with options up to £10 million.
Business contents and equipment cover protects the office kit and the tech that runs the agency (£100 excess), and employers’ liability is usually a legal requirement once you employ negotiators or admin staff. Letting agents handling client money should also note their compliance obligations, client money protection and redress scheme membership sit alongside insurance rather than inside it, and it’s worth keeping the distinction clear.

Because particulars are legal documents in waiting. Misdescription claims are the estate agency classic: a floorplan that flattered, a boundary that wasn’t, a “quiet road” that isn’t. Whether the claim is fair matters less than the cost of answering it properly.
Because valuations move money. Price a property wrong in either direction and someone believes they lost out. Valuation disputes are professional indemnity territory, and they arrive with solicitors attached.
Because viewings are public liability with house keys. You escort strangers through occupied homes and empty properties alike. A visitor injured on a viewing, or a vendor’s property damaged during one, lands on your public liability cover when they make a claim, and vendors assume you carry it.
From £55* a year for the base business insurance policy, with professional indemnity the main variable: the value of property you handle, the level of cover your work demands, sales versus lettings mix, and your claims history. A one-branch independent sits at the affordable end; get a quote online and the covers are itemised in about five minutes, and you can pay the cost of estate agents insurance in monthly instalments.
An estate agent’s week is a sequence of small promises: the price is right, the details are true, the viewing is safe. Get an estate agent insurance quote online from £55* a year, backed by an insurer rated AA- (Stable) by Standard & Poor’s, and let the policy keep the promises company.

In practice, yes. Misdescription and valuation disputes are the profession’s native claims, and defending one without cover costs real money even when you win. Some redress schemes and professional bodies expect PI as part of good standing, and clients increasingly assume it. The honest question is the limit, not the principle.
Any business that walks the public through properties does. Viewings, open houses and branch visits all carry injury and damage risk, and £1 million is the sensible floor. It comes as standard with every Professional Saver policy, so for our agents the question answers itself.
The legal costs and any compensation come out of the business, and agency margins rarely survive that arithmetic. Because PI works on a claims-made basis, a policy bought after the complaint won’t cover it either; the cover only protects claims made while it’s live, which is the argument for continuity.
Describe the mix when you quote: sales, lettings, and property management each carry their own claim patterns, and the policy shapes to what you actually do. Client money protection and redress membership remain separate compliance requirements; the insurance covers the claims, not the licences.
Key incidents usually surface as public liability or professional claims depending on what followed the loss; tell us how you manage keys when you quote. The better answer is procedural, but the cover is the backstop when procedure has a bad week.
