Coaching insurance protects a business whose entire product is influence: your clients act on what you say, and when one of them acts, loses out and blames the advice, the claim lands on you. Add the ordinary risks of rooms, sessions and laptops, and the practice has more insurable surface than its size suggests.
Professional Saver covers life coaches, business coaches, executive coaches and mentors from £55* a year, with public liability as standard and professional indemnity, equipment and personal accident cover as options. Quote online in five minutes; your documents arrive the same day.
Coaching cover is a package built around the two halves of the work. The first half is the advice: professional indemnity insurance covers claims that your coaching, guidance or programme caused a client financial loss. The second half is the world the coaching happens in: public liability insurance covers injury and property damage during sessions, whether in your office, a hired room or a client’s boardroom.
The same shape fits a life coaching business, an executive practice and mentoring. If your sessions involve physical activity, sports coaching cover is a more specialist market with its own norms (governing bodies often arrange it); the covers on this page are built for professionals whose tool is conversation.

Because clients act on your advice. Career guidance leads someone to leave a job that was about to promote them; a growth plan strains a client’s cash flow. Whether the claim is fair barely matters, because defending it costs money either way. Professional indemnity insurance pays the legal and compensation costs, and here it’s the cover that earns its keep.
Because sessions happen somewhere. A client trips over a bag in your hallway, or you knock a laptop off a boardroom table: public liability insurance covers accidental injury or damage to property wherever the session takes place, including when you work from home.
Because credibility increasingly requires it. Coaching bodies and accreditation schemes encourage or require professional indemnity cover, and corporate clients buying executive coaching routinely ask for proof of both covers before a contract starts. The certificate has become part of looking professional.
Every Professional Saver policy includes £1 million of public liability cover as standard (options up to £10 million), plus products liability, legal expenses and £10,000 of financial loss cover, from £55* a year. During the quote you add the covers a coaching business leans on:
Yes, and arguably more pointedly than anyone in-person. Online coaching strips away the slip-and-trip risks and leaves the pure advice risk, which is exactly the territory of professional indemnity: a client on another continent following your programme and blaming it when things go wrong. Public liability still matters if clients ever visit or you hire rooms for workshops, but for an online-first practice, PI is the load-bearing cover. Say the work is online when you quote and the policy weights accordingly.
From £55* a year for the whole policy. The price then follows your choices: professional indemnity and its limit, equipment value, personal accident cover, and whether anyone else coaches under your name. This corner of business insurance sits at the affordable end because the physical risks are modest; the online quote itemises each cover, takes about five minutes, and monthly instalments are available.
The work is built on trust, and nothing spends trust faster than a dispute you can’t afford to handle properly. Get a quote online from £55* a year, backed by an insurer rated AA- (Stable) by Standard & Poor’s, and work knowing the practice underneath you is covered.

No, unless you employ staff, at which point employers’ liability insurance usually becomes compulsory. The pressure elsewhere is professional rather than legal: accreditation bodies, corporate procurement teams and venue owners all expect to see cover, and turning up without it costs opportunities rather than fines.
The covers stay the same; the risks just relocate. Clients visiting a home office still trip on stairs, and home insurance typically won’t respond to business claims. If you work from home, public liability cover picks up visitor accidents and your equipment needs its own protection, because the home policy’s exclusions are exactly where the business lives.
Workshops concentrate the public liability risk: more people, hired venues, moving furniture. Venues will usually ask for proof of public liability cover before confirming a booking, often at £2 million or more. Tell us about workshop work when you quote so the limit matches what venues expect.
Not to the policy. Mentors, coaches and advisers share the same core risk, which is a client acting on guidance, so the same combination of professional indemnity and public liability covers all three. What matters at quote stage is what you actually do in a session, not the word on your website. One distinction does change the cover: if you are coaching bodies rather than careers, personal trainer insurance is built for the physical risk that comes with it.
