A photographer’s risks all travel with the job: thousands of pounds of camera equipment in one bag, a public place full of guests who don’t watch where they’re walking, and clients whose wedding cannot be reshot. Photography insurance exists for exactly those three problems, and venues increasingly won’t let you work without proof of the first one.
Professional Saver insurance policies for photographers start from £55* a year, with public liability, products liability, legal expenses and financial loss cover as standard, and camera equipment cover and professional indemnity as options. Quote online in about five minutes, and your certificate is ready to send to the venue the same day.
Photographers insurance is a package built around how photography actually works: on location, among the public, with expensive kit. It’s the type of insurance for photographers whose office is wherever the light is good. The core is public liability cover for injury and property damage claims, and around it sit the options a photography business adds as it grows, from equipment cover to professional indemnity for the work itself.
Whether you shoot weddings, events, portraits or commercial work, solo or with second shooters, the risks rhyme. The policy flexes to the specifics; the spine stays the same.

Because accidents happen in a flash, and on a shoot they happen in public. Two claims we see versions of again and again:
The injured guest. You’re shooting a wedding and set your tripod aside to work handheld. A guest trips over it and is injured, and the compensation claim comes to you. Public liability insurance covers the compensation and the legal costs, so the worst day of your season doesn’t become the worst year.
The stolen camera. You’re covering an event, step away for two minutes, and come back to an empty equipment bag. Camera equipment cover pays to replace the kit, so the business doesn’t stall because someone else has sticky fingers.
There’s a commercial pressure too: wedding venues, councils and event organisers routinely require proof of public liability insurance, often at £1 million or £2 million, before they’ll let a professional photographer work on site. No certificate, no access, no shoot.
Every Professional Saver policy includes as standard:
And as optional covers, chosen during the quote:
If the kit earns your living, yes, and don’t assume home insurance has it covered: home policies typically exclude business equipment, and a professional photographer’s bag is exactly that. Insure the replacement cost of the camera equipment you’d need to be shooting again by the weekend, bought new, not what you paid for it second-hand three years ago. And if you regularly work abroad, our insurance policies include worldwide liability cover for temporary work of up to 14 days (excluding the USA and Canada); personal travel insurance rarely stretches to professional kit, so mention travel when you quote and the cover can follow the equipment.
Policies start from £55* a year, with the price moving on the covers you add (equipment value and professional indemnity are the usual variables), where you shoot, and your claims history. Monthly instalments are available, which suits the seasonal rhythm of wedding photography income. Run the quote online; five minutes, itemised, no phone call required.
Somewhere in your inbox is the next enquiry, and somewhere in that thread the venue will ask for your insurance certificate. Get a quote online from £55* a year, backed by an insurer rated AA- (Stable) by Standard & Poor’s, and have the certificate ready before they ask.

No law requires it, but the practical answer is stricter: most venues and many corporate clients won’t confirm a booking without proof of public liability insurance at a stated level. Employers’ liability is the exception; that one is legally required if you take on staff, including regular paid second shooters in many arrangements.
From your first paid job, because payment is what turns an accident into a small business liability. It’s also the moment home insurance stops being relevant to your kit. The good news is that the from-£55* end of the market is priced for exactly this stage.
Vehicle theft is the most common way photographers lose kit, and cover depends on how and where the equipment was stored, so tell us about your typical shoot-day logistics when you get your quote. It’s a two-minute conversation that decides whether the worst-case insurance claim works smoothly when you make a claim.
That’s a professional indemnity claim: the client has suffered a genuine loss, and the claim is about your professional service rather than an injury. PI cover pays the compensation and legal costs, and because PI works on a claims made basis, keep it running between seasons rather than switching it off. Card failures, corrupted files and theft of un-delivered images are the scenarios that make PI the most valuable optional cover a wedding photographer carries.
Yes. Videographers and wedding photographers each have their own page and cover profile, and the quote adjusts to your specialism either way. If you shoot a mix, insure the business, not the label.
